Fresh from securing a bronze finish in the 2026 PVL Invitational Conference, PLDT High Speed Hitters outside hitters Alleiah Malaluan and Joan Monares traveled to Naga City to participate in the annual Peñafrancia Festival celebrations.
A massive crowd of 1.2 million devotees flooded Camarines Sur for the vibrant celebration of faith and Bicolano culture. For Malaluan and Monares, the festivities provided a celebratory pause following a tough conference campaign, where PLDT powered through to claim a historic bronze—adding a fresh podium finish to the gold medal they secured last year.
Malaluan and Monares traded hard hits and high-pressure rallies for the warmth of Naga, taking the opportunity to recharge, soak in the festivities, and connect with the fans who continue to rally behind the team

Highlighting the athletes’ visit was a courtesy call with Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo and local government officials, alongside meet-and-greet sessions that brought them up close and personal with the passionate local sports community.
For former De La Salle University Lady Spiker Malaluan, the Bicol getaway provided an emotional and spiritual reset before heading on to the next tournament.
"After such an intense Invitational Conference, our visit in Naga City became such a special breather for us," shared Malaluan. "Feeling the love of the Nagueño fans at Peñafrancia reminded us why we play the game. Seeing everyone united in celebration gives us a whole new wave of energy as we reset and get ready to fight even harder in the next conference."
Monares, who just won her first medal as a professional player following her stint as captain of the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, also reflected on experiencing the festival spirit.
"The energy in Naga was amazing – it was so full of life!" Monares said. "Connecting with the community during Peñafrancia was an incredible experience. Off the court, downtime with the team and connecting with fans who support us from afar is what keeps us grounded."
