Christmas Dream, Christmas Magic with SM Home

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas. There's a crispness in the air that can only indicate that the holidays are approaching, even if it's just October! As the days get shorter and the nights get longer, it's impossible not to start feeling that familiar, cozy pull toward Christmas. Now I can't stop daydreaming and my thoughts return to our most treasured Christmas traditions, like sipping hot chocolate in chilly weather, savouring home-cooked dishes and putting up Christmas decorations.

Over the weekend, I had the opportunity to attend SM Home's Santa's Workshop with my mom friends. Walking into the workshop was like stepping into my Christmas dream. 

We discovered wonderfully crafted themes such as Crystal Wonderland, Golden Elegance, Enchanted Christmas, Festive Holiday, Beary Merry Christmas, and Whimsical Holidays.

Each theme offered a unique and exciting story, and I imagined and saw right away our home transformed with a blend of comforting textures, glittering accents, and warm, layered lighting.  

Trust me when I say, SM Home's six new collections are here to save your Holiday Aesthetic. Everything about this year's theme is exquisitely done, from rich, gold accents to adorable things with bear themes.

I was also so happy because I got to pick up style and decorating tips from a designer expert, Ms. Maina Alonso, who really makes the season pop. We even felt like a style expert coz’ our team won when we were given a chance to style our own console table! CHOOSE YOUR STYLE

Start with the vibe, theme, and color scheme. Before purchasing or arranging anything, decide on your main theme. Whether you desire cozy, elegant, or whimsical, committing to one vibe will make your final look feel more unified and intentional. You may also repeat colors. Instead of a strict "color story" everywhere, focus on repeating key colors throughout your different decor zones. This creates harmony without being overly rigid. 

Last year, my color scheme was red and gold. This year, I am looking to incorporate some greens and mix them with the decor we currently have. 

IDENTIFY THE AREAS

You may pick your living room and dining area to concentrate your decor as these are the spaces in your home where you and your family spend most of your time together. :) This way, you have your goal of not making a mistake in decorating your whole house because you are focused on key areas of your home.

BUILD YOUR LIBRARY

Gather Christmas decor, books, frames, basket. You may also add everyday objects. Integrate your current favorite stuff! A comfy blanket, a lovely vase, or a stack of festive books may all contribute to your holiday display, making it feel more personal and lived-in.

LET THE EYES WANDER

Goal: visual harmony should be easy on your eyes. Apply the rule of thirds, which creates visual harmony, making the space from being too perfect. Consider Wall and Floor Space~ Look beyond just tabletops. Utilize empty wall space for wreaths or garlands, and don't forget the floor for larger decorative elements or cozy rugs.

STEP BACK AND EDIT

The most valuable tip! When you think you're finished, step back and edit. Sometimes, taking one or two pieces away makes the truly special accents stand out even more.

TRUST YOUR GUT AND HAVE FUN

Your own joy is the best accent of all! The final touch is to let your personal style shine!

With the tips I learned, I can't help but think of how much fun it was to open the boxes of Christmas tree decorations every year~ the delicate, hand-painted ornaments, the slightly tarnished silver garland, and the strings of lights that took a good twenty minutes to untangle. Seems familiar to you too, right?? I'm sure you'll agree with me that the Christmas countdown seems deliciously warm even at this early time of the year because of those simple, shared experiences.

Before we went home, we also wrote our Christmas wishes and hung them on the beautiful Christmas Tree— this is one of my favorite parts of the event! 🌲 Thank you, SM Home, it was a magical early Christmas experience!
