The COVID-19 issue has rocked the global beauty industry more than any other. Lockdowns caused widespread closures, and sales were astonishingly low as a result of consumers staying at home. The Philippine aesthetic sector responded favorably to the crisis, and the loosening of limitations in 2021 helped propel the recovery. Filipinos have started emphasizing beauty and well-being once more since the globe is beginning to open up in a favorable way. We've been living in uncertainty for almost three years, but now we're returning to normalcy.
Following a one-year break, Merz Philippines, a pioneer in the medical aesthetic business, conducted its renowned annual 2022 Tala Awards once more to honor its partner dermatologists, plastic surgeons, aestheticians, and owners of beauty salons for their exceptional work throughout the nation. It was a lovely way to recognize the relationship with Merz to see everyone dressed to the nines in their finest black and white Filipiniana attire at The Shangri-La at The Fort on September 8. The partner centers helped men and women regain their confidence despite the pandemic's gloom. Their accomplishments deserved to be honored in full.
Host Issa Litton kicked off the evening with an eye-opening talk show led by no less than Miss Universe 2015 and Ultherapy® ambassador Pia Wurtzbach. Together with Dr. EdgardoTolentino, MD, FPPS, and Dr. Beverly Amoranto, MD, FDPS, they tackled the current issues that Filipinos face. Pia, who started her yearly Ultherapy sessions in 2017, bravely shared the struggles behind her triumphs as she openly painted a picture not of a perfect beauty queen, but of a real person with real-life experiences. More importantly, she spoke of what it took for her to overcome her challenges, from self-care practices like getting Ultherapy® treatments to seeking traditional help. “I always strive to be better than I was yesterday, in everything I do, because confidence is beauty. Self-care is very personal and being consistent is key. Mental and physical health go together. Body positivity is about learning to accept, understand and celebrate yourself from every angle. This was validated by psychiatrist Dr. Ed Tolentino, that aggravated by the pandemic and other factors, everyone had their fair share of challenges and their own healthy way of coping. Dr. Ed shared with fellow doctors and aesthetic practitioners, tips on how to spot patients whose self-care treatments have turned unhealthy and how to help them. He advises emphasizing self-love. “Our reality is that there may be people who may not be ready to love their body the way it is, and this new term body neutrality promotes working on and loving our body for what it does or its functionality. You can find ways to enhance yourself, and if there is something you could do and you have all the resources available why not start caring for yourself. If you care for yourself, want to be happy, and want to be beautiful, there should not be any guilt. If we do not take care of ourselves, who will?”
