Make Each Day Better with these Practical Life Lessons from K-Dramas

It's no secret that Filipinos are huge fans of Korean dramas (K-Dramas). K-Dramas are notorious for sprinkling morsels of wisdom and practical lessons that viewers may implement in their daily lives, in addition to their “kilig”-inducing casts and intriguing stories.

We listed down these K-Dramas that give us both feels and life lessons we can take to heart.

Doom at Your Service

“The rain isn’t a big deal. Even if you’re the only one without an umbrella, it’s fine. Just get wet. Get wet and run.” --Myul Mang (Seo In-guk) to Tak Dong-gyung (Park Bo-young).

While this is a romantic scene between our OTPs (one true pair), it also talks about the value of not giving up from challenges you face and that sometimes, the problems you think are big may not really be that big. The most important thing is to keep moving forward.

Youth of May

“I hope you continue to bravely go down the path that you wanted to take. You are...a strong person that no one can break,” Hwang Hee-tae (Lee Do-hyun) to Kim Myung-hee (Go Min-Si).

In this heartbreaking goodbye scene, Hee-tae is leaving Myung-hee but reminds her to keep going and that she is a strong person that will not be brought down by anyone. This is a very helpful reminder that we are always stronger than we think we are.

Penthouse 3

“I still hate you. You still owe me a proper apology. But for now, I just want to help you,” Bae Ro-na (Kim Hyun-soo) from Penthouse 3 to Ha Eun-byul (Choi Ye-bin)

Ha Eun-byul and Bae Ro-na never had the best relationship because of their families but in this scene, while Eun-byul was facing difficulties, Ro-na still extended her hand to help someone she doesn’t particularly like, showing that taking the high ground and providing help when needed is important.

Sky Castle

“Think simply. The right answer is always simple. Those who are sick should be treated, and no one should be victimized.” – Park Soo-chang (Yu Seong-ju)

The reclusive doctor who wanted to reconcile with his son hasn’t always walked straight and narrow which led to the death of his wife and estrangement from his son. His life’s tragedies also taught him to be a better person and his quote on doing the right thing has shown his character growth and are words we can all live by.

Reply 1988

“The feeling of being accustomed only comes with having spent a long time with something. And the only people I’m comfortable with, can truly know me, embrace me and console me.” – Kim Jung-hwan (Ryu Jun-yeol)

Jung-hwan, despite his often-cold exterior, is known for his warm heart and is something his dearest and closest people cherish about him. The same is true for all of us: we need to surround ourselves with people who know us and are comfortable with.

Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo

“You could be living well and just end up dying one day. You can fall right out of the sky then end up living in a place like this. So just follow your heart and live. Do everything you want to do and live however you want.” – Hae Soo (IU)

After time-travelling to an ancient era and smack-dab into political intrigue, it’s no wonder Hae-Soo realized this. This is also something we can take lessons from: no one knows what will happen tomorrow so do your best to live better every day.

Cheese in the Trap

“If you’re going through something hard, don’t keep it to yourself.” – Yoo Jung (Park Hae Jin)

Cheese in the Trap might be marketed as a romantic-comedy but the show does drop a lot of truth bombs about living life and moving through challenges. This quote from Yoo Jung is one of them as it reminds people that no one should struggle alone and seek help when needed. Conversely, it also reminds people to help when they see someone struggling or asking for their help.
